One clear aim I have for this year is to play through a particular part of the backlog, which in this case are the Zombie games in the backlog. I hadn’t realised until I had begun compiling the backlog was the amount of Zombie games I had which I hadn’t yet played. By the end of 2026, I hope I will have played two or so zombie games from the backlog over the next 12 month period. One of these games will definitely be Dead Island, in its remastered guise. For the other zombie games, they could be Dead Rising 3, Dying Light, and Dead Island: Riptide or Days Gone or State of Decay etc. So I do have quite a few different games and different styles to choose from.
Another aim is to finally start playing through a Bioware trilogy from start to finish. This is quite a simple if a bit more time consuming I have never played through Dragons Age but I have played the first two Mass Effect titles although that was way back in 2015, so at this stage there isn’t much point in playing Mass Effect 3 as I can’t remember what happened in the first two games beyond the vaguest of vaguest memories of what occurred in the prior two games. So I might as well as start again from the beginning in their improved remastered form.
Dragons Age is a slightly different trilogy as from my understanding they are slightly more enclosed in the way that their stories are told as they aren’t directly connected together as your character doesn’t carry over from Dragons Age to Dragon Age 2 and then to Inquisition. So it’s more of a question of which version to go with the first two titles, as there is the choice between the more action heavy console versions or the more strategic PC versions. I believe that your character or least the choices made are then transferred over to which ever version of Inquisition is owned is done via Dragon Age Keep, which itself relies on the player having an Origin and now EA App account, which in my case would be to the PS4 version. I wouldn’t play through the entire trilogy in one year or at least I wouldn’t plan to, as they are quite long games and I don’t want to spend all my time playing games from the same series in a short time span.
Alongside playing through some zombie games and restarting/starting a Bioware trilogy. There are some of the shorter (relatively) games I hope to play through this year. One of these games is Shadow of the Tomb Raider as I thoroughly enjoyed the playing through the previous game in February last year after the accidental 12 year gap I had between the playing the first and the second, which I hope to not repeat again. A title I want to have another crack at is the first Dishonoured, which I remember enjoying but didn’t play through to completion, can’t remember how fair I got through it, the same goes for Deus Ex Human Revolution. A third title is the final Witcher 3 Expansion, Blood and Wine which once complete, I can think I can justify at least to myself purchasing Cyperpunk 2077, discounted, of course. Guardian of the Galaxy (2021) and Vampyr are two titles I got close to playing multiple times throughout last year.
The last title that is pretty much locked in is Jedi Survivor as I thoroughly enjoyed Fallen Order and it was even better than I had anticipated which was even more impressive as I did approach it with some hesitation due to seeing online comments mentioning the combat being a bit Soulslike, which as it turned out was utter nonsense as there was never a need to “git Gud”. I may also replay The Last of Us so I can enjoy Left Behind and Last of Us II in full. Any longer titles I would very much like to play will demand entirely on the time I have available as they are clearer more time sinks but four I would definitely think about playing this year are Fallout 4, Horizon Dawn, Death Stranding or Assassins Creed Origins or The Outer Worlds.
Outside of playing games, I would very much like to give whatever this is more attention and write more things beyond the sort of reviews I have written so far. I would like to write about a wider raft of stuff and “opinion” piece type things, maybe even discussing some news which interests me or something. So more wittering about things but with a wider remit, which should also help loosen up my prose even further and be even more beneficial to me and give me more to witter and write about when I want to and if I feel I have something to add. As well gets this thing looking a little bit more professional than the rough and ready state it looks like it currently does now, to give it more of a vibe and aesthetic and less bland and basic.
One thing that really needs to happen is finally give this thing a proper logo to replace the really rather simple logo that is there which was meant to be lot more temporary than what it has accidently turned into a more permanent thing. Hopefully I will be able to find some time to do this and other things with this website. Dunno if this will happen but I can hope I can do at least some of this throughout the year.
However, like most things in life, saying what you would like to do doesn’t really matter as any ideas that might exist are unlikely to survive contact with reality as life often doesn’t go to plan most of the time. Hopefully some of the aims I have laid out in this post will actually happen. One thing which I am hopeful will happen this year is that I can find the time to be able to get this website looking and feeling a little bit better and having a less bland and basic look and layout.
